Leaks suggest the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide will launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8, potentially in July or August. While the foldable flagship has appeared in high-resolution renders, new details about its cameras have emerged.
Two Camera Downgrades on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide reportedly drops the 10 MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom found on the Galaxy Z Fold7. This removal limits zoom capabilities, especially since the main camera now uses a 50 MP sensor instead of the Fold7’s 200 MP sensor. The lower resolution could reduce the effectiveness of digital zoom, a notable drawback given the lack of a telephoto lens.
The main camera lens itself appears to be downgraded slightly, moving from an f/1.7 aperture on the Fold7 to f/1.8 on the Fold8 Wide. This change could impact low-light performance marginally. Related coverage: Motorola Razr Fold Launches in India with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.
Ultra-Wide Camera Sees a Significant Upgrade
On a brighter note, Samsung seems to have upgraded the ultra-wide camera substantially. The Fold8 Wide reportedly features a 50 MP sensor paired with an f/1.9 lens, a major improvement over last year’s 12 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide sensor. This could offer users much better wide-angle shots with improved detail and brightness.
Other Notes and Availability
It remains unclear whether these camera changes will influence the Fold8 Wide’s pricing compared to the Galaxy Z Fold8. Additionally, the Fold8 Wide is rumored to come in a new green color option.
Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide’s camera setup reveals a mixed bag of compromises and enhancements, potentially reflecting a strategic choice by Samsung to balance features and cost for this foldable model.
