The team behind the popular open-source PS3 emulator, RPCS3, has issued a firm warning against the flood of low-quality AI-generated code submissions. Developers have recently been submitting untested, AI-written pull requests that add little value and often cause problems for the project.
RPCS3 Team Pushes Back Against AI-Generated Code
RPCS3’s development began in 2011, long before AI coding assistants became widespread. The team has painstakingly built the emulator by hand, enabling players to enjoy nearly the entire PlayStation 3 library on modern PCs. However, the rise of AI-assisted coding has led to an influx of poorly understood and untested code submissions.
In a direct message posted on X (formerly Twitter), the RPCS3 team said, “Please stop submitting AI slop code pull requests to RPCS3. We will start banning those who do so without disclosing it. New Contribution Rules Target AI-Generated Pull Requests
The team introduced updated guidelines to protect the project from disruptive contributions. They highlighted how unverified AI-generated code wastes maintainers’ time and, in some cases, breaks functionality when merged. Their statement was blunt: “You can’t possibly handwrite the type of sh*t AI slop we have been seeing. As for all the AI bros seething on our socials, we’re simply blocking you. Learn how to debug and code, and leave behind something useful to humanity when you’re gone instead of peddling slop.”
Despite this tough stance, the rules do not ban AI entirely. Using AI tools for research or reverse-engineering support remains acceptable. However, contributors must fully understand and take responsibility for every line of submitted code. Furthermore, all communication, including comments and pull request explanations, must be typed out by the contributor themselves without relying on AI-generated text.
