The company has rolled out Beta Version 23.34, a fresh software build aimed at resolving annoying system crashes and improving hands-free control. This update specifically targets the Fenix 8 family and the Enduro 3, providing crucial stability to premium wearables, including the Fenix 8 Pro, which currently retails for $1,049.
The release comes at an interesting juncture for Garmin's ecosystem. Although the brand has introduced the newer Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro, it continues to actively support its previous flagship wearables. Owners of the Fenix 8, Fenix E, and Enduro 3 received stable System Software 23.31 around September 10, while Fenix 8 Pro users are still waiting for their stable equivalent. This new beta build offers a preview of what is coming next to stabilize these high-end training tools.
Fixing Frustrating Spotify and HIIT Shutdowns
For multi-sport athletes, nothing is more frustrating than a smartwatch crashing in the middle of an intense training session. Beta Version 23.34 directly addresses this pain point by resolving two severe system shutdown triggers. The first fix targets the High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) activity profile, where previous software builds suffered from a bug that caused the watch to turn off entirely during active tracking.
The second major stability fix addresses Spotify integration. Many users rely on offline music playback during long runs or gym sessions. In earlier builds, switching playlists within the Spotify app or skipping tracks using paired Bluetooth headphones could cause the watch to freeze or shut down unexpectedly. Hands-Free Control and the OK Garmin Wake Word
Beyond critical crash fixes, the beta update introduces a major convenience feature for voice interaction. Beta Version 23.34 enables the voice command feature using the "OK Garmin" wake word. This addition allows users to interact with their smartwatches entirely hands-free.
This feature is highly beneficial during outdoor activities. If you are cycling, climbing, or running in cold weather with gloves on, accessing physical buttons or interacting with a touchscreen can be difficult and unsafe. By simply saying "OK Garmin," users can now trigger voice commands, make queries, or control device settings without breaking their stride.

The progression of this software cycle has been rapid. Immediately after rolling out stable version 23.31, Garmin launched Beta Version 23.32 to address minor, unspecified issues. However, Beta Version 23.34 is a much more substantial release, carrying a 22-line changelog. While many of those lines inherit fixes already present in stable version 23.31, the four new additions represent the true step forward for this beta cycle.
Garmin has not yet announced a specific release date for when these beta changes will transition into a stable public release.
