Oppo has officially teased the upcoming Watch S2, a wearable that doubles down on fitness-centric metrics while retaining the slim, circular aesthetic of its predecessor. With a chassis measuring just 8.9mm thick and weighing 34.4g, the device is designed to be an unobtrusive companion for both high-intensity workouts and daily wear. The watch will launch in three distinct colorways: Vibrant Orange, Misty Powder, and Mountain Shadow Grey.
While the hardware silhouette remains consistent with previous models, the internal software suite introduces a feature called FatMax. This mode aims to calculate a personalized fat-burning heart-rate zone by synthesizing individual data points, including age, weight, height, and activity history. Oppo even claims the watch can provide an estimate of fat burned in grams during a workout session. However, users should approach these specific metrics with a healthy dose of skepticism, as current wearable technology often struggles with the precision required to accurately track caloric and fat expenditure in real-time.
Health Monitoring and Sensor Upgrades
Beyond the headline-grabbing fat-burning features, the Watch S2 packs a comprehensive array of health sensors. The device includes support for ECG, wrist temperature monitoring, blood oxygen levels, and continuous heart-rate tracking. Oppo has touted significant improvements to its optical sensor array, claiming a 75% increase in resistance to interference and a 98.8% accuracy rate for exercise heart-rate tracking. While these specifications are promising, they remain manufacturer-stated goals pending verification through independent, real-world testing.
Battery Life and Market Availability
Efficiency appears to be a core focus for the Watch S2. The manufacturer claims a maximum battery life of 10 days under power-saving conditions. In more realistic, day-to-day scenarios, users can expect roughly seven days of use, or four days if the always-on display is active. This endurance is competitive for a device of this size, though it will ultimately depend on how aggressively the watch manages background sensor polling.
The Oppo Watch S2 is scheduled to make its official debut in China on September 22 alongside the Find X10 series. As of now, the company has not provided details regarding international availability or global pricing. We expect more clarity on whether this wearable will see a wider release once the initial launch event concludes.
