Following its initial preview at Computex, an official product listing has gone live ahead of an expected launch in mid-October. Built around Intel's new Wildcat Lake architecture, the device delivers a completely silent, fanless design tailored for home labs and creative setups. While official pricing details remain unannounced, the technical specifications confirm an ambitious shift toward all-flash network architecture.
Equipped with five M.2 NVMe SSD slots, the Minisforum S5 AI NAS supports up to 8TB per drive, providing a maximum total capacity of 40TB in a desktop footprint barely larger than a stack of books. By removing mechanical hard drive bays entirely, the unit eliminates acoustic vibration and mechanical noise, making it suitable for quiet office environments and living space setups.
Five NVMe Slots Bring Silent 40TB Solid-State Capacity
The primary appeal of the S5 AI NAS lies in its storage architecture. Traditional network-attached storage units rely on 3.5-inch hard drives to balance capacity and cost per gigabyte, but they generate continuous noise, heat, and noticeable latency during heavy file access. Driving the network system is the Intel Core 3 304 processor, an entry-level member of Intel's Wildcat Lake chip lineup. The hybrid CPU pairs a single high-performance Cougar Cove core with four low-power Darkmont efficiency cores, yielding a total of five execution cores boosting up to 4.3 GHz.
Because the Wildcat Lake processor operates at modest power consumption levels, Minisforum houses the board inside a ribbed aluminum chassis that relies purely on passive cooling. Eliminating cooling fans means the NAS operates in total silence, avoiding dust accumulation over long-term continuous operation. The system runs Minisforum's proprietary MinisCloud OS, designed to handle automated local backups, media streaming, and lightweight containerized workloads.

To ensure network bandwidth matches the speed of the internal NVMe drives, Minisforum equips the S5 AI NAS with a fast array of network interfaces and expansion ports.
