Genshin Impact 6.6 Luna VII update with new characters and story content

Genshin Impact 6.6 Luna VII is set to launch on May 20, 2026, bringing significant additions to the popular open-world RPG. This update closes the Nod-Krai story arc and lays the groundwork for the upcoming Snezhnaya region, introducing three new playable characters, a fresh Archon Quest, and a new weekly boss challenge.

Three New Playable Characters Arrive

The update’s highlight is Nicole Reynn, a highly anticipated character and the first playable member of the Hexenzirkel—a secretive society of Fontaine scholars introduced earlier in the game’s narrative. Known by her codename “N,” Nicole wields a Pyro Catalyst and offers team-wide Hexenzirkel buffs. She debuts in Phase 1 alongside Prune, a 4-star Anemo Catalyst user from Mondstadt who supports from off-field damage and aids Hexerei characters. The 5-star character Durin also returns in a rerun during this phase.

In Phase 2, players will meet Lohen, the Vice Captain of the Knights of Favonius’ Fifth Company. Lohen is a 5-star Cryo Polearm DPS character reputed to be stronger than the Knights’ Grand Master, Varka. His unique playstyle revolves around managing two resources—Joy and Will to Win—that empower his Elemental Skill and Burst. Once his Hexerei: Secret Rite effect is unlocked, his Normal and Charged Attacks gain extra damage based on accumulated Will to Win. Alongside Lohen, the character Mavuika makes a return as a rerun. Archon Quest Advances the Story in Sumeru

The new Archon Quest shifts focus back to Sumeru, where the Dendro Archon, Nahida, falls into an unexplained slumber, triggering turmoil across the nation. A mysterious new antagonist emerges who bears a striking resemblance to Il Dottore, a villain presumed defeated in the Nod-Krai storyline. Whether this figure is the original Dottore or a copy remains unclear ahead of the update’s release. Completing this quest unlocks a second weekly boss battle featuring Dottore and rewards players with 560 Primogems.

Additional Content and Features

Version 6.6 also introduces Hexerei buffs for seven legacy Mondstadt characters, enhancing their combat potential. Two new artifact sets become available, expanding customization options. The update expands Manikin actions across Teyvat, enriching the photo mode experience. Additionally, a Klee-led mini-game event and sports festival content themed around Miliastra Wonderland are part of the new update. A brief teaser for the Snezhnaya region was also included in the Version 6.6 special program, hinting at what to expect in Version 7.0, scheduled for August 12, 2026.

Update Timeline and Availability

Version 6.5 concludes on May 19, marking the end of Phase 2 banners for Nefer and Lauma, the Stygian Onslaught endgame challenge, and the Ley Line Overflow event. Players should complete these activities before the update locks them out. Genshin Impact remains free to play on iOS, Android, PC, and PlayStation 5 platforms.
