Streetwear collaborations with classic digital watches often risk feeling repetitive, usually settling for a basic logo print on a standard color scheme. Hong Kong lifestyle label GrowthRing & Supply (GRS) is attempting a more intentional approach with its latest project. Partnering on the foundation of Casio's classic DW-5600 square series, GRS has revealed the 'GRShock Kowloon Impact Limited Set', a watch and apparel package inspired by Hong Kong's urban heritage.
Debuting at a limited pop-up event in Hong Kong, the collaboration combines Casio's original rugged watch architecture with specialized typography from Japanese type designer Yu Miyama. Rooted in the visual atmosphere of the historic Kowloon Walled City, the design injects custom typographic art into one of watchmaking's most recognizable everyday silhouettes.
Custom Kanji Typography on a Classic Square Digital Base
The foundation for the project is Casio's DW-5600RL-1, a model that honors the original 1983 G-Shock color palette with subtle red and blue accents around the digital display perimeter. Rather than altering the underlying resin case geometry, GRS focused its artistic touches directly on the watch strap.
The centerpiece of the watch is a custom four-character phrase, 九龍衝擊 (Kowloon Impact), redesigned by long-time GRS collaborator Yu Miyama. Described as a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Chinese characters, the lettering is divided across the band. The characters for Kowloon (九龍) sit above the top lug, while Impact (衝擊) is positioned below the bottom lug, followed by discrete GRS branding further down the strap. The caseback appears to maintain standard Casio DW-5600 engravings, keeping the core mechanical and structural identity intact.
Streetwear Heritage and Exclusive Box Set Packaging
GrowthRing & Supply began in 2014 as a curated Hong Kong retail space before expanding into its own apparel label. Throughout its releases, the brand has repeatedly drawn aesthetic inspiration from Kowloon's dense historical architecture and local subcultures. This collaborative watch continues that theme under GRS's overarching Project Rising initiative.
The GRShock Kowloon Impact is being offered exclusively as part of a commemorative set. Inside a distressed black-and-white collector's box bearing the slogan "Together We Will Rise Again", buyers will receive the modified DW-5600 watch alongside a matching heavy-graphic T-shirt. The shirt features Miyama's custom Kanji typography paired with a digital watch display graphic, matching the visual language of the timepiece.
Availability and Release Context
The collection debuts at a special event at DragonClub Paterson in Hong Kong. While GRS has teased the set across social media, official release details remain strictly limited.
Global pricing has not yet been announced, and production quantities remain undisclosed. Because Casio has not distributed official press releases through its global media channels, this release appears to be an exclusive regional drop aimed primarily at streetwear enthusiasts and dedicated G-Shock collectors.
