Xiaomi has quietly expanded its latest tablet generation in China, introducing the standard Xiaomi Pad 9 alongside the higher-end Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro. Arriving shortly after the premium Pad 9 Pro Max announcement, these two slates focus on high-density displays, workstation software tools, and long battery life. Starting at $420 (¥2,999) for the base Pad 9 and $532 (¥3,799) for the Pad 9 Pro, the lineup targets students and mobile professionals who need serious digital workspace features without carrying a heavy laptop.
Both devices address common daily tablet compromises by featuring high-resolution 3.2K LCD panels with a smooth 144Hz refresh rate, paired with large battery capacities engineered to handle demanding remote work sessions away from wall chargers.
High-Resolution Displays Built for Extended Work Sessions
The visual centerpieces of both tablets are 3.2K LCD screens boasting a 3200 x 2136 resolution and a productivity-focused 3:2 aspect ratio. This squarer aspect ratio provides significantly more vertical real estate than traditional 16:9 media screens, allowing users to view more rows in document editors or arrange side-by-side apps cleanly without cramped text. Color rendering is supported by 12-bit color depth, complete DCI-P3 gamut coverage, and broad HDR support across Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HDR Vivid formats.
Xiaomi has also emphasized long-term eye comfort by adding hardware-level low blue light filtering, flicker-free dimming, and Circadian Friendly certifications. Furthermore, both panels incorporate wet-touch screen technology, keeping touch inputs responsive even when operating the slate with damp hands.
To maximize the utility of the hardware, Xiaomi includes desktop-oriented software tools out of the box, including a optimized version of WPS Office for Pad and CapCut Pro for mobile video editing. Both tablets support an optional magnetic stylus and a floating PC-style magnetic keyboard, turning the slates into practical workstations for document drafting and digital sketching.
Divergent Silicon Performance, Cameras, and Battery Capacities
While display technologies remain largely aligned, screen sizing and processing hardware create a clear boundary between the two models. The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro packs a larger 12.5-inch panel with a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, whereas the standard Pad 9 features an 11.2-inch screen reaching 800 nits. Under the hood, the Pad 9 Pro runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, built on a 3nm process clocked up to 3.8GHz and paired with an updated Adreno GPU. The standard Pad 9 uses the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip, delivering strong everyday performance though representing a more incremental step up from prior hardware.
Battery configurations also separate the two slates. The Pad 9 Pro includes a large 11,000mAh battery paired with 67W fast wired charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging to power external accessories. The base Pad 9 houses a 9,720mAh cell supported by 45W wired charging. Despite its larger cell, the Pad 9 Pro keeps a slim 5.8mm chassis at 580 grams, while the smaller Pad 9 measures 5.75mm thin and weighs 485 grams.
Camera systems reflect a similar split. The Pad 9 Pro mounts a 50MP main rear camera capable of 4K video capture alongside a 32MP front sensor for clear video conferencing. The standard Pad 9 relies on a 13MP main sensor and an 8MP front lens, both capped at 1080p video recording.
