Scheduled from September 17 through September 21 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, attendees can test out the open-world action-racer at the SEGA and Atlus booth in Hall 4-N01. The title is slated for an official multiplatform release in 2027 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam and Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Directed by original series creator Kenji Kanno, this long-awaited continuation shifts the franchise from compact arcade circuits into an expansive open-world structure. Following its initial announcement during the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2026, where it made waves accompanied by The Offspring's classic track 'All I Want,' SEGA is using TGS 2026 to showcase how the arcade formula translates to modern hardware.
A Globetrotting Campaign and Open-World Driving Mechanics
Crazy Taxi: World Tour expands the franchise footprint across five distinct global cities. Players step into the driver's seat as classic protagonist Axel, who sets out on an international chase to track down a masked crew that stole his iconic yellow cab. To succeed, drivers navigate dense urban traffic, launch off ramps for massive aerial stunts, drop off chaotic passengers, and complete odd-job challenges to collect cash.
For purists seeking the classic arcade rush, the game includes a dedicated time-attack Arcade Mode alongside a broad selection of vehicle customization options. Players can upgrade performance and tweak visual aesthetics, transforming standard taxis into specialized machines designed to handle both high-speed city shortcuts and complex stunt routes.
Cross-Platform Multiplayer and Modern Network Architecture
Beyond the single-player narrative, Crazy Taxi: World Tour introduces robust cross-platform multiplayer centered around two competitive modes: Pickup Race and Cops 'N' Cabbies. Pickup Race challenges players to secure passenger fares and navigate traffic faster than rival drivers, while Cops 'N' Cabbies introduces objective-based pursuits where drivers must outmaneuver opposing forces. SEGA has also clarified that generative AI tools served as behind-the-scenes development support aids, emphasizing that no voice performers were replaced or generated by AI during production.

Visitors attending Tokyo Game Show 2026 during public days from September 19 through September 21 can test the game using either standard control setups or an arcade-style station equipped with a full racing wheel. SEGA's booth will also feature a life-size replica of Axel's taxi for photo opportunities, alongside live-streamed stage events on September 17 and September 19 highlighting developer mission challenges and extended gameplay playthroughs.
While SEGA has confirmed that Crazy Taxi: World Tour will release in 2027 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, official retail pricing and exact release dates have not yet been announced.
